The most recent addition to Mid America's operating fleet is the former Southern Pacific coach Golden Sand. Built in 1950 for the shared Southern Pacific/Rock Island train Golden State, the Golden Sand follows the successful design blueprint originated by the Mohave and Echo Canyon. Featuring 46 reclining coach seats and seatback tables, the Golden Sand retains much of its original Southern Pacific character while incorporating ADA accessible doors, seating, and restroom facilities, as well as advanced mechanical and operating systems. Painted and lettered in its original Southern Pacific scheme, the Golden Sand exhibits a reverence for its railroading past as well as an embrace of today's mechanical advances. |
